learn.
A model, not a listicle

Skills that compound.

Technical skills depreciate as tools change. These eight compound — each one makes the next year of learning cheaper, the next bet more predictable, and the next tribe easier to build.

Foundation

What we already take as given

1

Tools change faster than people

A framework that was the whole job five years ago is a checkbox today. Skills that only describe a tool expire with it.

2

Compounding means the output of one year becomes the input of the next

Not a checklist you finish. A loop: practice produces judgment, judgment produces better practice. The skill feeds itself.

3

The diagram sets the frame

Your arrow aims at a world a few years ahead. These skills are what make that arrow reachable — and what pull the predictable zone forward with you.

The eight

Ranked by how much they multiply

None of these are technical skills. They are about choosing, connecting, and compounding — which is exactly why they survive tool changes.

  1. 01

    Judgment

Deciding what to build and what to ignore. The one thing models cannot do for you — they can propose, but they cannot be the one who answers when the proposal fails. Judgment is the record of refused options.

  2. 02

    Taste

Knowing what is good before the market does. Compounds with every project shipped: each finished thing recalibrates what you notice next time. Taste is the scarce half of authorship.

  3. 03

    Distribution

Audience and trust. The only asset that does not depreciate when tools change — a channel you built still carries whatever you make next. Reach is not a tribe, but it is the door to one.

  4. 04

    Teaching

Explaining clearly. Forces mastery — if you can teach the model back, you own it — and builds your tribe at the same time. The Socratic method this whole site runs on.

  5. 05

    Systems thinking

Seeing second-order effects. Stocks, flows, loops, delays — Theme 09. Makes every other skill more valuable because it tells you where to aim the arrow, not just how to pull it.

  6. 06

    Writing

The highest-leverage output format. One piece compounds forever: it is searchable, revisitable, and teachable. Distribution without writing is a voice that fades; writing without distribution is a diary.

  7. 07

    Relationships

People who vouch for you. Cannot be generated, only earned — and a model does not remember your last favour or notice when you are absent. Obligation is still a human loop.

  8. 08

    Meta-learning

Learning how to learn. The only skill that stays valuable no matter what changes — it is the skill that makes every other skill cheaper to acquire. The Concept Development Study arc is one version of it.

Model

How they connect

The skills are not a separate list bolted onto the curriculum. They map onto it.

Judgment

Theme 01 · How to know

Evidence over authority. The skill of choosing which question is worth answering.

Systems thinking

Theme 09 · Systems & feedback

Stocks, flows, loops. Seeing where your arrow actually lands.

Teaching

The method

Socratic guidance is the delivery. Teaching is the compounding skill it trains.

Writing

The output

Every lesson is studied by outlining and explaining. Writing is how the model gets owned.

Distribution · Relationships

Tribe building

A tribe needs a boundary, a task, a memory, an exit. Distribution opens the door; relationships are the duty inside it.

Meta-learning

The arc itself

Foundation, questions, observations, refine. The only skill that makes the next skill cheaper.

What it is not

Three false versions

×

A tool list

Python, Figma, a framework. Useful for a season. Expires with the tool. This page is about what survives the expiry.

×

A personality quiz

"Find your strength" is marketing. These skills are built by practice, not discovered by a test.

×

A substitute for the curriculum

The eight skills tell you what to aim at. Themes 01 through 10 tell you how the world actually works. You need both.
